By artificial intelligence (hereinafter AI), we mean automated or semi-automated systems, tools for automatic text generation and analysis, speech editing services, image generation, and data analysis tools.
The AI usage policy defines the rules for the application of AI tools by authors of publications, as well as by reviewers and editorial board members of the journal Kraieznavstvo during the preparation, review, and publication of materials. The purpose of this policy is to ensure transparency, responsible scientific practice, and adherence to international publication ethics standards COPE (Authorship and AI tools) .
The editorial board of Kraieznavstvo adheres to the following principles regarding AI use:
- AI cannot be listed as an author of scientific material. Only a human bears scientific, ethical, and legal responsibility for published data;
- The use of AI tools must not violate the principles of academic integrity;
- Authors must verify the accuracy and reliability of research data, including those found, analyzed, or generated by AI;
- Any use of AI must be disclosed in accordance with the requirements of this Policy.
REQUIREMENTS FOR AUTHORS
- Prohibition on listing AI as an author;
- Mandatory disclosure of AI use:
- The fact of AI use (yes/no);
- The name of tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, etc.), version (if available), and date of use;
- Purpose and scope of AI application (language editing, text generation, data analysis, image creation, etc.);
- Parts of the material where AI was applied;
- Disclosure of AI use under AI-generated diagrams, tables, graphs, images, or other visual material.
- Guarantee of absence of plagiarism, fabrication, fictitious references, or manipulations.
Recommendations for authors when using AI:
- Indicate in the cover letter that AI tool(s) [name, version] were used for [task] during manuscript preparation;
- Specify in the cover letter that all results and AI-generated data were carefully checked and are reliable;
- Mention AI use in the Methods section of the article;
- If AI was used for literary/language editing, indicate this in the Methods section of the article.
USE OF ARTIFICIAL TOOLS BY REVIEWERS
- Reviewers are not allowed to upload manuscripts or fragments to AI services that do not ensure confidentiality;
- Reviewers must disclose any AI use when forming conclusions or for technical editing.
USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE BY THE EDITORIAL BOARD
- The editorial board may use AI tools for plagiarism checks and literary editing of manuscripts.
VIOLATIONS OF THE AI USAGE POLICY
- Concealed use of AI;
- Underreporting or falsification of information regarding AI use;
- Use of AI leading to fabricated data, references, or visualizations;
- Breach of manuscript confidentiality by reviewers.
