On the activity of inter-district operational groups of the regional offices of the NKVD of the Ukrainian SSR during the July 1937 – November 1938 on the example of the «Uman bush»

Abstract: The article, based on archival sources, examines the functioning of inter-district operational groups of the NKVD during the Great Terror. Using the example of the activities of the Uman interdistrict operational group in July 1937–May 1939, the circumstances of its establishment, features of functioning, methods of achieving the goals and tasks of the temporary Chekist bodies are revealed. Their tasks were to implement the planned tasks of the NKVD central apparatus in regions to neutralize the so-called enemies of the people. In accordance with the main research tasks, the vertical of the Great Terror is recreated, the routine functioning of the punitive mechanism in regions remote from the center is highlighted, the leadership structure and the circumstances of the choice of deployment for inter-district operational groups of the NKVD are analyzed.
